    Save the Date...
If you're attending WFC this year in San Jose, please plan to attend my birthday party on Saturday 10/31 at the Fairmont. It's a BIG BIRTHDAY, people, and you are the peeps with whom I want to share it. I've decided to get a suite for the night, have a real party, and let the whole of WFC wish me a happy birthday. Oh yeah, I'm a giver.

Bring a costume (it's Halloween, people!). And be prepared to tell me how fabulous I look. I will give you drinks and cupcakes! See? That was easy ;)

    I HEART being a fangrrl
I have always been a "fan" of science fiction and fantasy. I remember begging my mom to let me stay up and watch Space 1999. I remember reading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe in third grade (twice). Those realms have been part of me as long as I can remember.

I didn't find fandom, though, until my 30's, and what a glorious experience it's been. I have met some truly wonderful people through WorldCon and World Fantasy. It was World Fantasy in Tempe, in fact, that led me down the garden path to LJ and keeping in touch with most of my peeps.

Which leads to today's moment of SKWEE when I read the Hugo and Campbell nominations. Have you seen them? Are you all full of love for cool things happening to your peeps?

Must go send emails. Don't have emails for all of you. Tweets! I have tweeting and emailing to do.

    Mixed up
Big Happy - I got a room at the Doubletree for Norwescon. Yay!

Big Sad - Another night of insomnia. This new thing, the not sleeping thing, it does not please me. Also, I have to sit through Day Three of a software deployment teleconference today. I'm supposed to be articulate. Methinks chances are rather low...

    OK, Atlanta doesn't suck
I have a training class all week, so I flew to Atlanta early Saturday to spend time with some old friends. I haven't seen J in almost 10 years, and I've never met her three-yr-old daughter. We spent a few hours together yesterday - just long enough, really, for me to fall head over heels for that kid ;)

Today we are going to the aquarium. Hopefully soon, because I am starving and want BREAKFAST.

And after they head home, I'm going shopping at the freakin' HUGE mall across the street. They have Lush! And Bare Escentuals! And OMG SHOES! Did I mention that I only brought one pair of shoes with me on this trip? I know! I'm totally buying shoes today :)

    Traveling...
At the airport waiting for my 6:30 flight to Atlanta. I'm in a training class next week but am spending the weekend with a friend I haven't seen in years. I packed a light bag, but because this is a work-trip I had to bring Le Beast (my giant laptop).

    My carryon, she is heavy...

    Work and Cons
The vacation schedule this year is dictated by 1) my nephew, and 2) World Fantasy Convention. I'm taking my required 5 consecutive days of vacation for World Fantasy, and the remaining 5 go to a graduation, Comic Con, and family camping.

I'm on the committee for WFC this year, and am specifically tasked with running the Friday Night Frenzy/Cattle Call/Author Signing. I really do need to see the site to get the floor plan done. Work has interfered, though, and I have to go to Atlanta for a training class the day before the WFC committee members will conduct their site visit. Crap. Looks as if I'll be making a solo trip sometime next month for my own site visit.

    Norwescon Room Reservation - Drat!
Seriously! I went to book my room last night and the Con hotel is totally sold out. I had to reserve at the Hilton up the road.

If anybody cancels at the DoubleTree, let me know. I'll totally take your reservation.

A couple of days to catch my breath
I took tomorrow off. Teh Boy also took tomorrow off. For some people that would mean a ROAD TRIP! For us that means PAJAMA DAYS!

I hope your New Year starts just as well :)

    Marking items off the list
Last night I purchased my attending membership to AussieConIV. I've never actually taken advantage of the best rate for a Worldcon membership before, but how could I pass up $80? I voted in site selection and was a pre-supporter. Go me.

I also purchased memberships to Comic Con for both my nephew and myself. I promised him several years ago that I'd take him on a vacation without parental supervision for either of us when he graduated from the 8th grade, and he chose Comic Con. I couldn't be more proud. He's also the kid that made me cry in the bookstore a few years back when he chose Ender's Game all by himself. The Nerd-Force runs strong in my family.

So in 2009 I'll be at Comic Con and World Fantasy, but not Worldcon. If I can find a good deal on Southwest I may try to make it to Norwescon - because seriously, who can get enough of the Portland-Seattle gang? In 2010 I'm definitely planning to attend Worldcon. I won't have enough vacation time, though, for World Fantasy that year.

That's my idea of a Happy New Year, people. Plan ahead for the next big party :) Safe and happy celebration wishes to all of you, my LJ peeps!

    Merry Christmas, LJ!
Daisy, my darling kitty whom I love ever so much [really], woke me at 5:45. I stayed in bed until 6:15, but what was the point? I was awake, so I got up. Now it's 7:00, I've had coffee, and I'm waiting for the rest of my family to arrive for stockings, presents, and breakfast.

I get to spend this morning with the people I love most in the world. I honestly don't need the gifts under the tree, just this. I am blessed.

    Merry Christmas, everyone.

    Not dead yet...
It's been a long month so far. I've been working crazy and long hours, project-wrangling and fire-stomping. Christmas is looming. I can't sleep.

Tonight I really needed to get groceries but I just couldn't make myself do it. I checked the fridge, the freezer, the pantry...score! Kraft macaroni and cheese! Made of nom, right? I love the stuff. I only allow myself to eat it a few times a year because it's made of mystery powder, butter, and pasta, but whatever, right? I'm tired and I want something warm and that's what I'm eating.

Except apparently it's not made of nom. Apparently it's really really gross. Really. Totally made of fail.

So I ate raisin toast. And some cheese. And maybe I'm gonna have a handful of almonds to round it all out. Should have gone to the store, dammit.

    Happy Thanksgiving, LJ!
Daisy woke me at 6:30 this morning. I won't complain, because I know she totally could have come after me at 5:15. Thanks, kitty, for the extra hour of sleep.

Teh Boy and I won't be spending the holiday together. He needs to spend time with his grandmother (the sweetest little lady EVAR) and I need to be in Sacramento to cook for my family. Last year he drove me to my sister's house then left before we ate dinner so that he could make it back to his grandma's house for dinner. I then caught a ride a home with my cousin. I told him that I really don't want him to have to do all of that driving this year, and he wisely chose to skip going to my sister's house.

So I'm off to Sacramento soon to cook for the whole darn family. My sister and I divide the work, but share responsibility for the turkey. My dishes are stuffing, Mom's green beans (with a yummy bacon and tomato sauce), home made rolls, and cranberry sauce. My favorite part of it all...?

OMG it's Mashed Potatoes and Graaaaaaaaaaavy Day!

Happy Thanksgiving to you all, my LJ gang!

    The best-laid plans
So much for whatever I intended to get done this weekend. I have a cold. It's not that bad, really, because I stayed home yesterday and slept through the worst of it. Hopefully it will just be a low grade annoyance for a week and then go away.

I'm certainly not doing any yard work today. I've managed to do some laundry. Maybe I can even get my Thanksgiving list sorted out. I had planned to do a bit of yard work and clean the house this weekend so that I can put up the Christmas tree next weekend.

There's more, because I haven't posted in ages, but I have the dumb. More later when I have less dumbs.
